Alisson defied boss Klopp’s orders at end of Liverpool hammering by Barcelona, claims Steve McManaman
JURGEN KLOPP wanted keeper Alisson to go up for a corner at the end of Liverpool’s hammering at Barcelona but refused orders, claims Steve McManaman.
With Liverpool trailing 3-0 Klopp’s men were searching for an all important away goal to take into the second leg next Tuesday at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp ordered Alisson to go up for a corner against Barcelona, but the keeper refusedReuters
So desperate was Klopp to pull one back he instructed his keeper to go up for a corner – according to commentator McManaman.
McManaman said on BT Sport: “Jurgen’s pointing at Alisson to get in the box as well, and Alisson just said no to him!”
When the Brazilian stopper eventually prepared himself to join the aerial attack he was halted in his tracks by forward Mo Salah.
McManaman added: “Now he’s going – he’s been told no again. Salah said no to him this time.”
Former Anfield hero Luis Suarez had opened the scoring in Spain and the Uruguayan did not hold back in his celebrations against the side who sold him.
But the night will be remembered by a simply sublime free-kick by Lionel Messi which made it three and added to his 75th minute tap in.
Though it was later revealed the cheeky Argentine moved the ball five-yards close than where the foul originally took place.
After the game Klopp lauded Messi for his masterful goal, despite the controversy.
Klopp said: “In these moments [Messi] is unstoppable.
“We couldn’t defend the free kick. What a strike.
“The second goal was probably not the nicest in the career of Lionel Messi but it shows his skills that he is even there in that moment.
